Kips Bay New York Showhouse

Inspired by travels through Japan, Kasumi transforms a windowless primary bath into an atmospheric retreat shaped by light, material, and nature. Named for the Japanese word for mist, the space unfolds through layers of transparency and reflection, from a translucent screen animated by projected cherry blossom shadows to a custom cast-glass and Breccia Fantastica marble vanity. Rather than compensate for the absence of natural light, the design embraces it, creating an imagined landscape where illumination, shadow, and movement become part of the experience.

Natural stone grounds the more ephemeral elements of the room. Breccia Fantastica marble wraps the vanity and tub surround, while sculptural tile introduces organic geometry and texture underfoot. Tactile textiles, warm brushed bronze, and reflective surfaces add softness and depth, while carefully integrated lighting warms the stone, illuminates the cast glass from within, and allows moments of brightness and shadow to emerge throughout the space.

Craft and artistry are layered throughout, from custom furnishings and millwork to an ornamental mirror, artwork, and a suspended floral installation that brings nature into the room as a sculptural presence. Together, these elements create a quiet interplay between solidity and translucence, the natural and the crafted. Through layers of material, light, reflection, and nature, an interior without a view becomes its own landscape—a place of warmth, artistry, ritual, and quiet discovery.
