These homeowners wanted a new home to age-in-place that felt like a piece of art created for their life. The house accesses the surrounding ravine views and connects to nature and the outdoors. In the back, an intimate courtyard is formed that connects the great room, kitchen, porch, and primary suite. A single tree was planted in the center of the courtyard like a sculpture, emphasizing the natural beauty of the surrounding ravine.

The house comfortably showcases their important collection of contemporary art, giving each piece room to breathe and be appreciated while keeping in balance with the scale of the home. The home’s lighting and wall space were designed with the flexibility to shift pieces from room to room as their collection evolves. While their art was contemporary, they wanted the home to feel modern and edited while still feeling comfortable and fitting within the context of the neighborhood. Overall, the home has two pitched roofs held together with a flat roof, which weaves around to create a crisp edge at the glassy corners and large window gestures.
